Custom Art Proposal For
Overview
Barbara Hionides proposes the following creative addition to the S.T.E.A.M Room in Don Brewer Head Start Center, designed to inspire S.T.E.A.M. thinking in children, be used as an interactive learning tool, and clearly communicate the purpose of the room.
Interior Mural
The room is in in a shape of an octagon, forming a large circle. Each side of the octagon also has a large window, which separates the workable wall space into 8 panels. Five out of the eight panels will each represent the theme of each subject in the acronym S.T.E.A.M. The other three panels will be used to enhance all five of the subjects.
The nature of S.T.E.A.M. is all-encompassing and a multi-faceted theme. As an artist I strived to focus on the micro and macro aspects of specific areas of each subject which I will further explain in the panel descriptions. I chose for each panel to have one particular color as its central theme, so that the child, along with experiencing the visual components of each panel, will also experience the emotion and the impact of one particular color, suggesting the importance of noticing details and the impact of every component.
